Bridal Fashion Trend
From GetMarried.com, Get Married Editorial
Director Crys Stewart reports on the newest
looks and what's hot in all the best collections
show during Bridal Fashion Week.
Pockets
Practically every line from Amsale to the Vineyard
collection had a place to put your hands, your
groom’s ring or your cell phone! If you want
to share, there were plenty of bridesmaid dresses
that had pockets, too.
Short, shorter, micro-mini
The tiny wedding dress is in. Not just for the
beach or city hall, these numbers are perfect
for the bride with great legs who wants to show
them off wherever she plans on getting hitched.
Even Sarah Houston’s brilliant maternity bridal
line had the cutest above-the-knee stunner.
Cotton
Who would’ve thought that cotton could look
so gorgeous and so, well, bridal! Half the time
I couldn’t tell the gown was made out of cotton
until I read the show notes. Cotton/silk blends,
brushed cotton, cotton georgette, cotton lace–all
this means a fresh, new elegance combined with
cool comfort. Chris Cole, designers of the new
Cotton Bride collection, reminded me that you
could dye your cotton wedding dress after the
wedding. Now that’s doing your bit for recycling!
Dresses that are meaningful
Adele Wechsler’s going back to her South African
roots for her stunning ‘Africa’ collection that
includes gowns beaded by Zulu tribeswomen. Kirsty
Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings is donating
$125 to the Make a Wish Foundation with every
sale of a very special gown. Now more than ever,
brides can buy a gown and make a difference.
Gowns designed to work wonders
The new Tsarina collection features designs
that use optical illusion to make the best of
your figure. Special seaming, draping and inset
panels draw the eye away from what you don’t
want to show off. One of the most striking gowns
in the collection features black side panels
that practically make your hips disappear.
Bare backs
Backlines are going, going, gone. Even Anne
Barge, known for her classy and classic gowns,
offered a drop dead gorgeous slinky silk jersey
column gown with long sleeves and absolutely
no back whatsoever. Pnina Tornai sent several
backless numbers down the runway. Since you’ll
be turning your back on your guests at the ceremony,
why not make the view something to talk about.
Covering up
On the other hand, many designers offered up
sleeves, high necklines and even jackets. Monique
Lhuillier’s empire sheath topped with a tulle
pearl-covered jacket with blouson sleeves was
the best.
Belts
Belts on bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses.
Skinny belts, wide belts, belts with buckles
and ribbons belts. Belts covered in crystals
and even semi-precious stones. This is one fashion
trend inherited directly from the fashion runways
that any bride can adopt to personalize her
wedding looks easily and stylishly.
Just remember, the best bridal trend is whatever
makes you feel most beautiful!
